This project resulted from an online conversation over at the RC Universe scale boat forum. A fellow modeler named Wolfgang invited me to check out his website and view the various excellent model rowboats. One in particular caught my eye and it was one of those moments when you know this is your next project. I asked permission to use his concept and he was kind enough to provide a basic plan with a few critical pictures. From that, I built my version of “Glatzenmann”. The character originates in the cartoons of Martin Perscheid and is well known in Europe.
This model is deceivingly complex although it looks simple. The mechanical actions are well hidden but when properly installed, make the model come to life. This one always gets a reaction when I launch him.
Watch the video carefully and note the subtle body movements. It takes five channels of RC control to achieve the movement, all coordinated to get a smooth realistic action.
Needless to say, this is one of my favorites.
The video may take time to load - your patience will be well rewarded...
